2020 LPGA Season
JUST SOME THOUGHTS about the 2020 LPGA Season as of September 2020:
I have a little sign on my desk that says “When You Find Yourself in a Hole, Stop Digging.” That is what the LPGA Tour had to do this season.
All women golfers-- including the growing number of girls playing golf -- should be so proud of the Tour’s leaders and the players who have had to adjust their plans! Only four tournaments at the beginning of the 2020 LPGA Tournament Schedule were played as originally scheduled.
Commissioner #MikeWhan was with the Tour in Australia in mid-February when he learned what “quarantine” really meant if a golfers was diagnosed with the virus. That’s when the Commissioner decided to cancel the upcoming tournaments in Thailand, Singapore and China. He stopped digging in Asia and brought the Tour players back to the U.S. in February where they have remained since – and healthy. Join me in saying "Thank You" LPGA Tour Commissioner and Board, and sponsors and the best women golfers and fans. #DriveOn.
Best news is that the sponsors of Tour events, the golf courses the Tour competes on, the golf clubs that had planned around the Tour’s calendar including events sponsored by the #USGA and the #KPMG were on board to change their plans and work around a revised 2020 LPGA and stay with the Tour for next year. That cooperation speaks well for the LPGA Commissioner and the LPGA Board and the relationships with the Tour’s sponsors.
The 2020 season is now one month longer with the CME Group Tour Championship – the grand season finale – scheduled for December 17-20. (I see holiday lights on flag sticks!) If you are looking for a way to say "Thank You:" Watch the LPGA tournaments on television – drive the ratings through the roof! Post a "TuneIn" poster for the next tournament. The statistics are in that the number of women golfers and young girls is growing more than ever during this pandemic. Imagine the growth when we can put this pandemic behind us and just aim for the flag-stick.
Don't miss the next LPGA event -- the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey beginning Oct 1.THIS SCHEDULE HAS BEEN REVISED DUE TO THE CORONA VIRUS. AFTER THE LPGA TOUR RETURNED FROM ITS FIRST "ASIAN SWING" ENDING IN EARLY MARCH, MANY TOURNAMENTS SINCE THEN HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED. THE LPGA TOUR "OPENS" AGAIN FOR TWO WEEKS THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST. SOME TOURNAMENTS HAVE BEEN CANCELED, OTHERS MOVED TO NEW DATES.
